Wayne Latham

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of one of our umpires and one of our friends.  Wayne Latham passed away on Monday, Sept 6th.

Wayne was one of our most dedicated umpires over the last twenty years.  He worked almost every weekend we had an event going.

He is also known by many in the slow pitch community as one of the best players from the Central Virginia area during the 70’s and 80’s and even 90’s.   In the world of Slow Pitch, there are a handful of players that are thought of as some of the best to play the game and Latham was one of those names.

Most of the people in the fast pitch community may recognized him for his umpiring.  He was always working and was thought of by his peers as one of the most knowledgeable and solid officials we have had.

As a ball player, he could do it all and it was no different as an umpire: slow pitch, fast pitch, league, high school, middle school.

He was also a diehard Carolina Basketball fan.

But most importantly, Wayne was a good man and a good friend to all who knew him.  He will be missed.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept 15th at Dale Memorial Park at 11:00am.
His family will  receive friends on Tuesday, Sept 14th from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Barden Bennett Funeral Home in Powhatan.  (3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, VA  23139).

If you’d like to honor Wayne Latham, you can make a donation in his name to the  Powhatan Christian Fellowship  3308-A Pleasants Rd. Powhatan, VA  23139.
